This Privacy Policy describes how PromptVault ("we", "our", or "us") handles user data. PromptVault is a browser extension designed to help you save, organize, and reuse prompts inside AI chat interfaces like ChatGPT and Claude.
100% Local and Secure Storage
PromptVault is built with a local-first architecture. All your prompts, folder classifications, and tags are stored directly inside your browser's local storage and synced securely using Google Chrome's native Profile Sync API. We do not have any external databases, servers, trackers, or analytics scripts.
1. Information We Access
PromptVault accesses certain browser data strictly to fulfill its single purpose of being a local prompt manager:
- Saved Prompt Templates: Prompt text and structures that you explicitly write, save, or import into the extension. This is treated as "Personal communications" data under the Developer policies.
- Webpage Selection (Dynamic variable): If you insert a prompt containing the
{{selection}}placeholder, PromptVault accesses the text currently highlighted on your active browser tab to compile and inject the prompt. - Webpage Title and URL (Dynamic variables): If you insert a prompt containing the
{{title}}or{{url}}placeholders, the extension temporarily reads the title or URL of the active webpage to resolve those variables before injection.
2. How Data is Used and Disclosed
Your data is processed and utilized solely within the extension to render and inject your prompts. We comply with the following core developer standards:
- No Third-Party Transmission: We do not transmit, sell, or transfer any user data, prompt contents, or website metadata to external companies, remote databases, or third parties.
- No Ad Targeting: Your prompt contents and website activities are never used for advertising, marketing, profiling, tracking, or user targeting.
- No Credit Determination: Your data is never analyzed, transferred, or processed to determine creditworthiness or for lending evaluation.
3. Data Deletion & Freedom
Since your data lives on your machine, you have complete control over it:
- Data Portability: You can bulk export your prompts into portable JSON or Markdown format at any time using the extension's settings interface.
- Instant Erasure: You can completely and permanently delete all saved prompts, folders, and history with a single click using the "Clear All Data" function under PromptVault Settings. Uninstalling the extension will also automatically delete all locally cached data.
4. Policy Updates
If we update this Privacy Policy in the future, we will notify users by updating the date at the top of this page. However, our core philosophy of maintaining 100% local, serverless storage will remain unchanged.
